We recognise 5 key areas that contribute to corporate social responsibility: our customers, our people, our local communities, our suppliers and our environment.
Our Customers
We support many different types of customer by providing insurance products and solutions to meet the needs of insurance brokers along with small, medium and large businesses.
We continually work to ensure that we are providing the best service for our customers, and the Financial Conduct Authority initiative ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ is core to this aim. We ensure that our communications with customers are clear, whilst we endeavour to provide products that meet their varied needs.
Our People
We respect and value the qualities that make our staff individuals and we are committed to creating a culture of inclusion and diversity.
We provide access to training for all staff, to put them in the strongest position to do their job well and fulfil their potential. Regardless of role or level, everyone at SSR has access to a variety of developmental opportunities to help them realise their full potential. We believe that supporting individual growth and development helps us attract and retain talented individuals.
We encourage cycling and walking to work where possible and operate a Bike2Work scheme to assist staff in funding purchases of new bicycles.
Our Local Communities
We believe in and support our local communities.
We are keen to support colleagues who volunteer or fundraise for charity. We can provide time off and company support to facilitate time in the community. Matched funding on sponsorship raised is also provided at group level. Recent sponsorship initiatives by employees, supported by the business, include Blood Bikes and the Prudential Ride London in aid of Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospital.
We actively support Charity work days, offering a day off with full pay for community gardening projects and the like.

We appointed a Corporate Social Responsibility Co-Ordinator in 2020 to help us organise fund raising projects and nurture our relationships with our charity partners. We partnered with Help Bristol’s Homeless and in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff made multiple donations to the East Bristol Foodbank to help local families who are struggling during this time.
In 2021, we raised over £600 for good causes, including East Bristol Foodbank, BBC Children in Need, Save the Children and Caring in Bristol.
Numerous SSR staff participated in the 2022 Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £3,000 for Caring in Bristol. We also made a donation to a Ukrainian humanitarian charity and hosted a Quiz Night to raise £551 for the Jessie May Trust.

Staff also take on various challenges such as running or sports events throughout the year which the company also support in terms of donation matching and flexibility in work to accommodate.
Our Suppliers
Our reputation is very important to us and to help protect this, we will not knowingly conduct business with any organisation that does not share our commitment to dealing with stakeholders fairly and ethically. Our approach to procurement is based on the principles of competitive tendering and dealing with suppliers in a fair and open manner.
Our Environment
We believe in the principle of caring for the environment and strive to incorporate good environmental practice into our workplace, taking a sustainable approach to waste management and minimising our use of resources across the business.
We are focused on improving our energy efficiency, managing our wastage responsibly and reducing our carbon emissions. We have operated a paperless office system for over 20 years, minimise business travel where possible. We have remote working facilities and have upgraded our telephone system to accommodate teleconferencing, providing a solution for home working and reducing the need for colleagues to travel for meetings.
